BUTTON COLLAGES 2004-05
In 2004, my shoulder was broken in an accident leaving me unable to raise up my right arm, making it impossible to hold a paint brush. During the year of physical therapy, I discovered I could work if I kept my arm down. I turned to my collections of various materials; vintage buttons and notions, vintage wallpapers and frames, to see what I could do with them. Using buttons made it imperative to sew the collages, despite the difficulty of sewing through board, as the colors of the threads were important to the integrity of the work. Gluing was not an option. These works are part of the series that developed.
